Etudes

So, I am working on several etudes right now :)

Duport Etude #1:
This is a very interesting etude. It is almost entirely composed with double stops, which makes it a bit tricky to play in tune. I feel like this etude is getting me in better shape than I have eve been before. In a different way than I have been before, actually.

Popper Etude #6

I have played this etude for a long time. It is certainly one of the greatest and most effective cello etudes ever written. There are so many different aspects of technique that this etude can help to refine. Right now, I m working on finger organization and speed :)

Here is a video of Joshua Roman playing this etude:

More to come later. :)

Sonata Started 5/3/10

Boccherini Cello Sonata in C major G 6.

Dr. Uzur sent me a text message this week suggesting that I should start to work on this sonata. Like the last Boccherini piece that I played, recordings and videos of this sonata are somewhat rare. However, I have been able to find several, unlike the D major concerto. :D

I am very excited to get down to work on this Sonata, I am starting with the first movement, and it is very interesting musically. While it is certainly a Baroque Sonata, it has many elements of classicism. I can't wait to dive in.

Here is the only video recording of the sonata that I could find online:

It is quite a large contrast to the piece I played for my Jury last semester, it is nice to have variety. :D
